The primary objective of this session is to identify, diagnose and evaluate various approaches towards the issue of local and regional development. It is proposed to commence with identification of challenges facing regional and local socio-economic development in the contemporary world at various spatial scales (national, regional and local). The participants of the session becomes acquainted with the issues of regional and local development along with methods of shaping development policy in countries of diversified economic, social and political system. Due to active involvement of presenters from several countries, it is possible to review various solutions and experiences related to regional development. The subject matter of the session covers three groups of problems - theoretical, methodical and practical. One should bear in mind that discussed issues are based upon specific examples derived from practical experience of the presenters. During the session, it is planned to promote a book of the same title, which the Committee intends to publish in the Routledge.
